Faculty awards and recognition

ASU’s W. P. Carey School of Business recognizes faculty members who demonstrate excellence and passion in teaching, research, and advancing the business community at home and abroad. Those whose exceptional teaching and research contributions align with the school’s strategic plan initiatives of active engagement in the classroom and conducting groundbreaking research for a better future receive recognition. We are proud to acknowledge their dedication and success.

Teaching awards

At the end of every academic year, W. P. Carey acknowledges faculty members for their remarkable contributions with major teaching awards. Faculty members from various business disciplines are recognized for their excellent performance in the classroom and research and their significant impact on students and the broader business community. These faculty embody the school’s mission to foster positive global change in business and society by educating tomorrow’s leaders.

W. P. Carey teaching awards

In tribute to Dr. William Huizingh, the first associate dean of W. P. Carey, the Huizingh Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher Award and Huizingh Outstanding Undergraduate Service to Students Award were established in 2007. He was known for his devotion to supporting student success both inside and outside the classroom, and these awards recognize current faculty members who have demonstrated a similar positive influence on students.

  • The Huizingh Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher Award honors instructors who have provided excellent teaching and mentoring to undergraduate students.
  • The Huizingh Outstanding Undergraduate Service to Students Award goes to faculty members who have shown exceptional leadership and service to undergraduate students.

The ‘Entrepreneurial Approach to Learning’ Teaching Innovation Award aims to acknowledge and celebrate faculty members who model an entrepreneurial approach to teaching innovation and promote the infusion of entrepreneurship and innovation mindsets in their classrooms.

At W. P. Carey, we measure success not by whom we exclude but by whom we include and how they succeed. We honor this core value with the 'Business is Personal' Inclusive Teaching Award, which recognizes faculty members who model inclusive approaches to teaching and learning.

Faculty members who exhibit remarkable teaching skills and mentorship to graduate students receive an Outstanding Graduate Teacher Award for contributing to student success. This recognition award is for graduate faculty who utilize classroom time to promote critical thinking and active learning, encouraging students to learn and challenge themselves with rigorous coursework.

Faculty members transforming education by creating or enhancing innovative online course creation receive recognition and honor for their excellence through the ‘Rethinking Business Education’ Outstanding Online Teaching Award.
