FIN 530: Derivatives
Equips you to understand how to value and employ derivative securities in a variety of contexts.
FIN 550: Fixed Income
Investigates fixed income instruments and associated relative valuation of the securities. This intermediate - to advanced level course combines concepts from financial theory with the instructor’s experiences in fixed income sales and trading to relate the significance of theory to practice.
FIN 560: International Financial Management
Examines the financial issues of an international investment decision. Main topics include foreign exchange market, investment alternatives in the international capital markets, and the management of foreign exchange risk.
Electives
FIN 591: Portfolio Engineering
Explores the science of building portfolios, beginning with the pricing of individual securities and concluding with building portfolios with those securities. In between, all essential elements of portfolio engineering are examined, including risk and expected return relationships, trading, pricing, and marketing of portfolios.
FIN 580: Investment Practicum
Manage real money and make real decisions — buy, sell, trade, and measure performance. Twice a year, the student managers make presentations to the advisory board, which consists of professional money managers. Admission into this course is by application during your first year.
FIN 555: Entrepreneurial Finance
Provides an introduction to the entrepreneurial sector, whether your interest is starting your own company or becoming involved as an investor. Upon successful completion of the course, you should be able to create the financial portion of a business plan, place a rough value on the business, estimate how much outside money to seek and from which sources, and understand a typical offering memoranda from a venture capitalist.
